While the monsters of the Marianas are busy practicing for the upcoming season, the Commonwealth Football League’s board of directors is working behind the scenes to ensure that the gridiron gladiators will have everything ready once they step onto the field of play next month.

Coaches, team representatives, referees, and front office members have been planning the 2005 edition of the CNMI’s biggest and baddest sport for months now, and according to chairman Clyde Lemons, much of their efforts are expected to be realized tomorrow when special project committee members report on their progress.

While the schedule makers are currently mapping out this year’s match-ups on a drawing board, the start of the season has been inked for Saturday, Sept. 24, at 10am. Though the complete list of teams has not yet been added, league officials believe that they will be getting confirmation very soon as the countdown to kick off has begun.

Procrastinators need to get off the bench right away as there are roughly eight weeks remaining until the opening day, and while the race for sponsors continues, there is an equally heated scramble for the island’s best arms for a number of vacant starting quarterback slots.

Team representatives, league officials, and those interested in forming football teams are invited to join the CFL’s next board meeting tomorrow evening at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post on Beach Road at 6pm.
