Despite the water shortage problem on the island, unidentified burglars did not spare the Water Task Force/Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s warehouse in Lower Base, where they stole tools and equipment worth nearly $30,000.

The incident prompted the Department of Public Safety to call for public assistance in ascertaining the identities of the suspects.

“Anyone having any information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Department of Public Safety at telephone numbers 664-9042 or the Crime Stoppers Hotline at telephone number 234-7272,” said DPS spokesperson Catherine Sheu.

Sheu said police received a report about the burglary and theft Monday morning. Investigators are now probing the case.

Sheu said the stolen tools and equipment included 15 spools of black submersible pump wires valued at about $15,000; a welder attached to a generator with trailer, $8,000; power inverter, $3,000; 12 pipe wrenches of various sizes, $800; and Shop Vac, $500.
