Garapan Street Market now closer to Paseo de Marianas
The Garapan Street Market is at a new time and place, a move aimed at catching the after-work crowd and more tourists.
Beginning this week, the Garapan Street Market will be held along Coral Tree Avenue, near the pedestrian mall Paseo de Marianas in Garapan from 5pm to 9pm every Thursday.
“Now that construction of the Paseo de Marianas has been completed, we are happy to be back at our original location in the heart of the tourist district in downtown Garapan,” said Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Juan L. Babauta.
Coral Tree Avenue runs in front of the Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach and Hyatt Regency Saipan. The street market has also moved its opening time ahead one hour.
“We believe this is a strategic move to catch employees getting off of work at 4:30pm or 5pm,” said Babauta. “Whether they’re coming by for a ready meal or picking up fresh vegetables to cook dinner at home, we think this is a convenient move for everyone.”
Street market patrons are being encouraged to preserve the aesthetics of the newly renovated pedestrian mall and adjacent streets by protecting new landscaping and spitting in only proper receptacles.
The Garapan Street Market offers crafts, novelties, food, and free live entertainment. Parking for the street market is now available at the American Memorial Park parking lot adjacent to the Visitors Center.
