Saipan mayor sponsors two Japanese groups
The Saipan Mayor’s Office recently sponsored two Japanese groups for a Japanese Student Exchange Program, said program coordinator Olinka C. Chaudry.
Chaudry said the Mayor’s Office led by Mayor Juan B. Tudela holds the exchange program annually. For this year, she said the groups were composed of KSKK group and the Sanpoen group.
The KSKK group was comprised of members from Tokyo, Japan, while the Sanpoen group had members from Nagano, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka cities in Japan. Chaudry said KSKK sent 19 students with one chaperone and the Sanpoen Group sent 26 students with 10 chaperones to guide them on the island.
The KSKK delegation arrived on the island last July 23 and left Saipan last July 30. For a weeklong stay, the KSKK group, she said, stayed for sightseeing and cultural exchanges with the CNMI community. They even visited the Office of the Governor, said Chaudry. The first group also had a chance to live with local families and enjoyed the local food of the island.
Chaudry said the Sanpoen group arrived on July 27 and left the island Wednesday morning. She said the second batch arrived on the island together with their high priest. The delegation went to the Japanese memorial sites in Marpi to pray for their countrymen who perished during the World War II.
