And the music stopped…TGIT no more
Thursday night would never be the same again for party animals on Saipan as the island’s Thursday shindig arena will no longer be operating starting this week.
The loud and vibrant music at the famed T.G.I.T at the Hibiscus Hall of the Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach would come to a thumping end starting this Thursday, said Dai-Ichi’s general manager Jackson Yang yesterday.
Yang told Saipan Tribune that much as he is aware of the excellent patronage the Saipan community has been giving to the discotheque converted function hall every Thursday, he said they had to cease operating the Thursday revelry.
“Dai-Ichi has gone through renovations on the north wing of the hotel,” he said. He said since the renovation on that side of the hotel has been completed they would have to stop the disco on Thursdays.
Yang said it was management decision to prioritize the welfare of their clients. He said this is the main reason why they are shutting down the T.G.I.T operations.
He denied the reason that the Thursday shindig is not providing the hotel enough money to compensate for the cost of its operations. He said T.G.I.T. was doing fairly enough to keep it running.
He said if they would have a better venue for the discotheque other than the Hibiscus Hall, they would resume operations for T.G.I.T.
F&B director Tom Welch said the hotel started T.G.I.T in February 2003 and since then the public has made the mark in their weekly calendar making Thursday their weekly party night.
Welch said the management had been discussing the move months ago. He said the management is more concerned about the interest and well being of the hotel guests. The loud bass sound of the disco could be heard by billeted guests on the north wing of the hotel, thus it sometimes disturb them in their usual sleep and relaxation.
He said it was a real tough decision for the management, but hotel guests should be their top priority.
