In defense of Mr. Joyner

This is in response to a letter from Thomas J. Camacho. I work for the Developmental Disabilities Council and have access to the minutes and records of past Council meetings. These public information records show that a majority number of the council members, over 60 percent, voted to remove Mr. Camacho as executive director of the Council. Will Mr. Camacho attack every council member who exercised his/her right to vote their conscience? Is he trying to rob us of our admiration of persons like John Joyner who vote with their conscience? If so, his cunning letter to the editor is unbecoming of the former executive director.

Mr. Camacho’s letter shows bitterness about a vote that happened a long time ago. He should let his hurt go, move forward and stop holding onto scars. It’s a new day. Now, we promote reaching for the stars, because our schools can be stars. This possibility is what every parent wants for their child. Dr. Joyner can help get this for all our children.

I am proud to follow Dr. Joyner’s leadership. He knows that an effective leader follows the wishes of those he leads. Being comfortable with following his “followers,” those of us who elect him, will define him as a competent, efficient leader. Such a candidate for the State Board of Education is what PSS really needs. My family and I will support John Joyner at the Forum On Education in October, and we will vote for him in November.
