A Hawaiian firm sued a Saipan resident in Superior Court yesterday over her late husband’s unpaid medical bills amounting to over $9,000.

Raymond K. Itagaki, M.D., Inc., a Hawaii Professional Corp., filed a civil complaint against Emy R. Sonoda, saying the woman is liable for her husband’s debt.

The husband, Jesus A. Sonoda, allegedly sought medical treatment from the company in 1997.

The company’s attorney, Ray T. Chikamoto, said the husband’s debt remains at $9,008.35, with the last payment of $700 being made in April 2004.

Chikamoto said the defendant failed to settle despite demand, prompting the firm to take legal action. He asked the court for an order awarding the amount of the debt plus interests to the company. (John Ravelo)
