Forum on media and the law on Thursday
The NMI Council for the Humanities is inviting the public to its “Media and the Law Forum” that will be held this Thursday, Sept. 22, from 6pm, to 8pm at the American Memorial Park Visitors Center.
This event will feature a panel discussion moderated by John O. Gonzales that will explore how the media, law enforcement, and the courts deal with a hypothetical criminal trial. It is intended to give the public an educational and entertaining behind-the-scenes demonstration of how the media and the law interact during a court case.
Panel members, selected based on their professional experience, will include Santiago Tudela who will portray the Police Chief, Prosecutor Jeff Moots, Defense Attorney Masood Karimipour, Judge Ken Govendo, newspaper reporter John Ravelo, radio reporter Harry Blalock, newspaper editor Zaldy Dandan, Rev. Ray Kinsella and victims’ rights advocate Lauri Ogumoro.
Following the panel discussion, the audience will be invited to ask panelists questions they may have about the public service roles of the various represented entities.
Media and the Law Forum is the first in a series of public programs that the Council is sponsoring as part of its “Law and the Community” series that will continue during the first week in October. Other activities include “Culture and the Law Forum,” mock trials for junior high school students, and “Technology and the Law Workshop.”
The Law and the Community series is sponsored by the Council, the U.S. District Court and the CNMI Bar Association. Those interested in attending upcoming Law and the Community Forum programs are invited to contact Council staff at 235-4785 for times, dates and venues. (PR)
