A man was beaten black and blue when he refused to give two unidentified men money in San Antonio early Tuesday night.

The 43-year-old victim, who filed a complaint with the Department of Public Safety that same evening, said he was walking within San Antonio that evening when two unidentified male suspects jumped in front of him and tried to extort money from him. When he said “no” to their demands, one of the two suspects suddenly swung a rebar at him, which fortunately did not hit him.

After missing with the rebar, the other suspect punched him, causing him to fall to the ground. The victim said the suspects punched him a couple more times before both walked away.

DPS spokeswoman Catherine Sheu did not identify the victim.

Sheu said there were no arrests made that night and that the case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Bureau for follow up.
