Proa, Old Aces battle for 45-and-over title slot tonight
Pennant champion Heinz and Dave Proa thought it had earned an automatic slot to the championship game of the 45-and-over Masters Basketball League, but all that changed after the Old Aces managed to get back into contention.
According to a revised playoffs schedule provided by Rufino Aguon, the Proa and Old Aces will battle tonight at 6:30pm at the Northern Marianas College for the right to face Pepsi for all the marbles. Pepsi defeated the Chalan Kanoa Legends last Friday night to secure a slot.
The Old Aces team was apparently dropped off the schedule after originally failing to settle its fee obligations with the league, which led officials to granting Proa an automatic slot in the title game after the team posted the best record in the regular season.
The Old Aces were able to settle their dues, however, and now have a shot at the title game.
Meanwhile, Proa will take on Sabungero in the 35-and-over double-elimination playoffs at 8pm, with the winner advancing to play Verizon tomorrow at 6pm. Verizon defeated Natibu last Friday.
Natibu will take on the Legends, who lost to the Old Aces to open the playoffs, at 7:30pm tomorrow with the loser being eliminated.
Pennant champion Pepsi, which had a first-round bye, will face the Old Aces at 6pm on Oct. 8. (Shan Seman)
