Lifeless body found in Chalan Piao beach
A man’s lifeless body was found floating off a beach in Chalan Piao Saturday, police said.
A certain police detective Santos telephoned the Saipan Tribune about the incident Saturday night, asking that the victim’s photo be published on the newspaper to assist investigators in identifying the body.
Yesterday, investigators have reportedly ascertained the victim’s identity. But the Department of Public Safety has yet to make an official statement to the media about the incident.
It remained unclear if the man had died due to drowning or other causes, whether accidental or one resulting from foul play. DPS spokesperson Catherine Sheu could not be reached for interview at press time.
Meanwhile, Saipan continued to experience heavy downpour yesterday due to a tropical disturbance in the Northern Islands. The Emergency Management Office advised motorists to take extra precaution for debris and flooding on roadways, particularly on the northern part of Saipan.
The EMO said a poorly defined tropical disturbance was located about 7 miles east of Agrihan, 48 miles north of Pagan, and 255 miles north of Saipan. The agency said heavy rainfall occurred not only on those islands, but also on Tinian. The EMO cited forecasts that the weather disturbance would drift slowly to the northeast direction.
