Want to reduce your power bill? The REACh Energy Fair today, Oct. 15, promises to help consumers learn new ways to save both energy and money through energy conservation.

The REACH Energy Fair will be held from 9am to 3pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium in Susupe. The fair will feature displays and demonstrations of energy efficient products, on-site vendor sales, and giveaways of energy efficient products. Vendors displaying products will include YCO Hardware, Ace Hardware, Gree Air Conditioning, and 3A’s Polyshine. Microl Corp. will also bring out their hybrid cars, which consume less fuel. The Department of Lands and Natural Resources Division of Agriculture will offer free shade plants while supplies last. The Department of Public Works Energy Division will be on-site to give away one free CFL for every CFL purchased at the Fair. CFLs use less energy, produce less heat, and last longer than incandescent light bulbs. The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. will help familiarize consumers on how to accurately read their power meters.

Information will also be available for low-income families who may be eligible for the DCCA Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Saipan Mayor’s Office utility subsidy program. Information on other social services will be provided, including the DCCA Nutrition Assistance Program and Office on Aging. REACh will also have an energy-conservation coloring station for children. Fourth and 5th grade Energy Ambassadors will be recruited through a poster contest.

“If you want to cut your utility costs, this is your chance to learn the best ways how,” said REACh project coordinator Linda Concepcion-Torres. “Whether it be purchasing an appliance or product or learning some free energy-conservation tips, the Energy Fair will have it all.”

Attendees are encouraged to first visit the registration table at the fair to qualify for free giveaways.

REACh is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and aims to promote public education on energy assistance and conservation, to promote understanding of budget matters families, and to help clients of the DCCA Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program achieve energy self-sufficiency.
