Sparks even record with easy victory
The Matansa Sparks reached the .500 mark Wednesday after beating the San Antonio Sixers II, 81-46, in the ongoing 2005 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League at the Gilebrt C. Ada Gymnasium.
The Sparks were given a run for their money in the early goings of the bout as San Antonio kept close behind the play of Dwight Buena and Alvin Salas, but the duo’s efforts was not enough to put up a scare as the Matansa cagers calmly grabbed an 11-point halftime lead, 35-24.
James Camacho played a key role in the Sparks’ charge, fueling the run by scoring 10 straight points toward the end of the half.
The Sparks then kicked it into turbo mode, picked up their intensity level, and blew the opposition away in the second half as Camacho picked up where he left off and got a lot of support from his teammates.
Camacho, Zack Diaz, and Ken Deleon Guerrero each swooshed the net for 10 points, spearheading the Sparks’ 46-point performance while the team’s defense limited the Sixers II to 22 points for the 35-point victory margin.
Camacho finished with a game-high 20 points to lead the Sparks, who are now 6-6. Diaz and Juan Ogarto also pumped in 14 and 13 points, while Deleon Guerrero and Juan Iguel contributed 10 points apiece.
Buena led San Antonio with 14 points.
