Mayor Manglona: Ben and Tim to win election
Rota Mayor Benjamin Manglona said he believes that the gubernatorial tandem of Covenant Party’s Benigno R. Fitial and Timothy P. Villagomez would win this year’s election.
“We will win. Ben and Tim will win and Victor Hocog for Rota mayor will win,” said Manglona in an interview on Saipan Thursday.
The mayor, who still claims to be Republican, recently shifted his support to the Covenant Party’s gubernatorial candidates. On Rota, he supports the mayoralty candidacy of Victor Hocog, who is running as an independent.
In an earlier interview, Manglona said he chose not to endorse Republican Party’s Babauta-Benavente tandem because the governor had stopped consulting him on Rota issues.
Manglona, in particular, said the governor did not consult him on appointments to boards and commissions. He said the governor would only listen to other members of the delegation such as the elected senators.
When asked on the mayor’s electoral prediction, GOP Rota senator Paul Manglona said, “Mark this date when he said it, and let’s talk about it after the elections.”
Earlier, Rota legislative delegation chair Diego M. Songao said that the Republican Party would corner at least 60 percent of the Rota votes. (Liberty Dones)
