Rota mayor Benjamin Manglona said no lawsuit has been filed and no investigation has been made against him over the non-renewal of seven municipal employees.

“I’m waiting to be sued,” said Manglona in an interview on Saipan Thursday.

Likewise, he said that he received no questions from the Office of the Public Auditor or the Civil Service Commission regarding the matter.

“There’s nothing. It’s because they [employees] themselves know that I have the prerogative not to renew them. Their contracts allowed for seven-day notification but I gave them 15 days,” said the mayor.

Some of the employees earlier said that they would sue the mayor if they were not renewed by Oct. 1. They alleged that the mayor did not renew their contracts for political reasons.

Manglona had denied this, saying his decision was based on good judgment. He said the move was due to budgetary constraints and the alleged poor work performance of the concerned employees.

Three of the employees disputed the mayor’s claim, saying they even received Employee of the Year and leadership awards.

The terminated employees are believed to be supporting the Republican Party.

The Rota mayor is campaigning for an independent mayoral candidate.
