Govt S-ball, private school V-ball crown champions
The 2005 Inter-Government Slow-Pitch Softball League and the 2005 Private Schools Volleyball League concluded their seasons by crowning champions the past week and a half.
Department of Community and Cultural Affairs and Public School System took home the championships of the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively, of the softball competition for civil servants.
DCCA slipped by No Zone in their hotly contested title match, 14-13, while PSS took care of business against pennant champion Department of Finance in yet another thriller, 11-9. Both finals were held last Oct. 21 at the Tan Ge Field
The Eagles of Grace Christian Academy, meanwhile, annexed the 2005 PSVL varsity championship following its two-set sweep of Marianas Baptist Academy, 25-12 and 25-16, last Thursday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. In the battle for third, the Calvary Christian Academy Sharks downed the Seventh Day Adventist School Iguanas, 25-16 and 25-22.
In the 35-and-over Masters Basketball League, Verizon earned the right to challenge pennant winner Heinz and Dave Proa after the former champions defeated Pepsi, 79-72, last Oct. 22 at the NMC Gymnasium.
Action in the four-person beach volleyball competition at Pacific Islands Club, Commonwealth Football League at the CPA Airport Field, Masters and Fall editions of the Saipan Major League at the Kan Pacific Baseball Field, Budweiser Cup and Rotary basketball leagues at the Ada Gym, and high school Rocball also continued last week.
