Incumbents Juan B. Tudela and Valintin Taisakan earned themselves another four years in office after winning in the Saipan and Northern Islands mayoral elections Saturday.

Meanwhile, the “incumbentless” races for mayor of Tinian and Rota will remain undecided pending the counting of overseas votes.

Partial election results show that Tudela gained a total of 3,492 votes in the municipality of Saipan, leading his closest rival by a landslide 1,536 votes.

The current figures do not include 1,105 absentee voters registered on Saipan.

Frank Cepeda ranked second with 1,956 votes, followed by James Ada with 1,855 votes. Victorino Cepeda came next with 1,251 votes. At the bottom of the list is Ricardo Duenas with 1,213 votes.

Mayor Taisakan got 57 votes in the Northern Islands, posting a 21-vote lead over Tobias Aldan’s 36 votes. The other candidate, David Peter, got three votes.

The Northern Islands have two absentee voters.

Meanwhile, Jose San Nicolas is leading Senate President Joaquin Adriano in the Tinian mayoral race, 494-452. The 154 absentee voters may swing the race either way.

Three of the four candidates for Rota mayor remain in the contest. Leading the pack is Covenant Party candidate Joseph Inos with 419 votes. Republican Vicente Atalig follows closely with 405 votes. Coming in third place is independent candidate Victor Hocog with 349 votes.

The fourth candidate, Julian Taimanao, earned 15 votes.

Herman T. Guerrero had a successful bid for another term as Board of Representative member for Saipan and the Northern Islands. He beat opponent John Joyner by a landslide, 6,009-3,230.

No winner could be declared in the BOE race in Tinian until the 154 overseas votes are counted.

Lucy Blanco-Maratita is currently 82 votes ahead of her opponent Don Farrell. They got 508 votes and 426 votes, respectively. (Agnes E. Donato)
