Family Hope Center concludes story sharing course
The Family Hope Center, in partnership with the Motheread/Fatheread, recently concluded an eight-week course on story sharing which began on Sept. 28, 2005.
The course is to train parents of young children to use selected storybooks and a variety of interactive activities to develop children’s reading, critical thinking and problem solving skills. There were 10 parents that completed the course and were issued a Certificate of Achievement on Nov. 23, 2005.
The facilitator of the training was Mary Binauea who is the Motheread/Fatheread Coordinator and certified trainer. The Motheread/Fatheread Literacy Program is sponsored by the Northern Mariana Islands Council for the Humanities and the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library.
The Family Hope Center (Family Support 360 Project) is a One-Stop Resource and Referral Service Center for families and people with disabilities. As an information resource center, families can find information about services available in the CNMI, selected books to read and learn about different types of disabilities and to utilize the computers to search for topics of their interest.
“As referral service center, the family will come to the center and tell us what their needs are, the system navigators will refer the family to the appropriate service providers. We serve and support family members to advocate for their children with disabilities in the CNMI from birth to 21 years,” said a member of the Family Hope Center.
The center is funded by a grant from the Administration on Development Disabilities through CNMI Council of Developmental Disabilities with support services provided by the CNMI Association of Families with Disabilities.
