The action in the Saipan Softball Association continued to thrill the crowd at Tan Ge Field on Monday night as the Islanders scored in every inning en route to a rout of the previously powerful Proa in the continuation of the Men’s Island-Wide Fast-Pitch Softball League.

There was little that the red clad hitters could do as pitcher Jess Manibusan allowed just six runs off of six hits against the Proa through five innings on the rubber, and the Islanders’ offense provided plenty of run support in the form of a 13-hit campaign that yielded 16 runs.

Catcher Manny Cabrera led the way for the Islanders with a homerun and a pair of singles to finish the night with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate and three runs batted in. Cabrera wasn’t the only Manny of the hour as Manny Tenorio went 2-for-3 with a single, a double, and three runs scored.

Shortstop Reno Celis got in on the scoring as well with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to finish the night 2-for-3 with a pair of base knocks and three plate crossings.

The Islanders took a 5-0 lead through two and a half before the Proa answered with three in the bottom of the third inning. That was as close as they would get as the Islanders took advantage of four walks and four errors to score eight runs in the top of the fourth with four hits.

Proa scored three runs in their next at bats, but the Islanders added three of their own in the top of the fifth to sap the life out of the P-men.

Seabees ‘4’ 6, D-9ers 3

After coming off a thrilling nine inning 5-4 win on Friday night, the D-9ers fell to their foes from Chalan Kanoa as the Seabees ‘4 pulled off a 6-3 upset in the late game on the strength of a pair of three-run innings.

John Manibusan was the man on the mound for Seabees ‘4’ as he gave up three runs off of five hits and fanned three through six innings before Ike Taitano cleaned up in the seventh to end the game.

Manibusan’s lone mistake came off of Greg F. Camacho’s bat as the hard-hitting first baseman cracked one out of the park for a lead-off homerun in the fourth inning. Other than that, the hurler was relatively in control throughout the contest while his offense provided the punch to get him the win.

Third baseman Pete Tomokane drove in a pair of runs off of a pair of singles and stole two bases to finish the night 2-for-3, while right fielder J.J. Laniyo also went 2-for-3 with a single and an RBI triple. The talented base runner also stole a base and crossed home plate for a tally while second baseman J. R. Suel went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.

Seabees ‘4’ took the lead early by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning, and after the D-9ers cut the lead to 3-2 with a pair in the top of the second, the club from CK poured on another trio of tallies in the third to knock out the northern boys.
