Mobil’s public relations manager, Cecile Bamba-Suda, handed out the check to MOVER president Jun Lapeceros, who was accompanied by fellow group members at the company’s Puerto Rico offices.

Lapeceros thanked Mobil for its support. He said the drainage cleanup project, which will begin soon, would cover stormwater drainages in certain areas in Chalan Kanoa, one leading to the Susupe Lake Road and the other to Finasisu. He said MOVER’s volunteers would conduct the cleanup for about six or seven Sundays.

The new drainage cleanup project will become MOVER’s third of such projects, which were mainly funded by MOBIL. In the first two projects, MOVER targeted the drainages on Saipan’s western beaches from San Antonio to San Roque. MOVER’s first drainage cleanup project earned for it recognition by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 9.

Meanwhile, Mobil said it also donated varying amounts to other groups such as the Northern Mariana Islands Humanities Council, Hopwood Junior High School, Tanapag Elementary School, NMI Math Counts, and Mt. Carmel Cathedral School. Suda said the donation amounts varied from $1,000 to $5,000.
