The Marianas Public Lands Authority said Wednesday that the transition process to the next administration has been going smoothly, brushing aside speculations that the agency would receive flak amid various controversies it has been involved in.

“The transition is going very smoothly,” said MPLA public information officer Ed Arriola Jr. “We’re not hiding anything. There’s nothing to hide.”

Arriola said the MPLA transition team of governor-elect Benigno Fitial and lieutenant governor-elect Timothy Villagomez has begun interviewing MPLA staff members.

Arriola said the MPLA staff has been very cooperative with the transition team, headed by Henry Macaranas and Jesus I. Sablan.

“On behalf of the MPLA and the board, I would like to thank the transition team,” Arriola said.

Excluding its board members, the MPLA has 71 employees, including commissioner Edward DeLeon Guerrero.

The MPLA has been involved in controversies and lawsuits over its land compensation program. Another controversy includes the reprogramming of funds from the agency to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., as part of Gov. Juan N. Babauta’s handling of Saipan’s power crisis.
