The University of Guam is seeking accreditation for its planned offering of bachelor programs and post-graduate studies in the CNMI.

Saipan-based UoG director for international program development Jamie Mason said that UoG is awaiting approval from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges for a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business administration, and a bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, special education, and social work.

He said UoG anticipates to receive feedback from WASC early next year.

The UoG pursues the Saipan program in partnership with Northern Marianas College.

Mason himself holds office at NMC Saipan campus in As Terlaje.

In his remarks during the Saipan Chamber of Commerce meeting Wednesday, Mason said that UoG will begin offering certificate programs such as a CPA-preparation certificate as early as January next year.

He said UoG also plans to offer certificate programs for para-legal studies and health services administration.

Along with these, UoG will also begin short English courses for foreign students.

Mason said he recently went to China and identified potential students who would be willing to take the English courses on Saipan.

Likewise, he said that UoG is looking for partners from the business community to develop educational tourism program.

This program would allow visitors to the CNMI to take short courses of their interests from UoG/NMC while on island.

“We are looking for partners,” said Mason, even as he encouraged people to freely approach him at the college for any training needs.

“If you need workforce training, say in computer, we’ll do it. We intend to do more trainings here,” he said.

Mason said the UoG is committed to stay in the CNMI “for a long haul.”

“UoG is here. We’re not going away,” he said.
