Seabees perfect through Round 1
Seabees ‘4’ kept their pristine record intact on Wednesday night as they pulled out an unlikely come from behind win against the Islanders, 13-12, at Tan Ge Field to close out the first round of regular season action in the Men’s Island-Wide Fast-Pitch Softball League.
First baseman Jonathan Delos Santos hit a two-run inside the park homerun in the fifth inning and shortstop John Reyes drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh when he doubled in Mario Aguon.
Delos Santos finished the game 1-for-2 with the base-rounder while Reyes led the Seabees with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate that yielded a pair of singles, a walk-off double, and three runs batted in.
Aguon also had a solid day with the aluminum swat stick as he went 2-for-3 with a single, an RBI triple, and a stolen base that put him in position for the final score.
After trailing 8-0, the Seabees finally woke up as they cut the deficit in half with a four-run outburst in the bottom of the third inning. Their road got a little more difficult when the Islanders answered with three runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 11-4, but the determined Seabees plugged away with a pair of runs in each of the next two innings before tying the game in the bottom of the sixth with another four-run spree.
After blanking the Islanders in the top of the final inning, Reyes stepped up with his late game heroics that drove in Aguon.
Proa 14, Kagman Lancheros 4
The pummeling powers of Proa finally earned a win on the strength of Herculean hurler Tony Satur, as the prominent pitcher fanned six would-be hitters to end a three-game skid.
While the Proa offense provided a seemingly endless supply of runs, Satur allowed just four runners to cross the plate off of eight hits to pick up the win.
At 1-3 and tied for third place, the Proa have a new leash on life heading into the second round, as their bats finally came alive with 17 hits in six innings.
Right fielder Tony Pangelinan was on fire at the plate with a flawless 4-for-4 night that included three doubles, a homerun, and four runs batted in, while first baseman Elmer Sablan showed his stuff with a single, a double, a triple, and a pair of ribbies.
It didn’t take long for the Proa to take control as they fired out a pair of runs in the first, scored another in the second, and piled on three more in the third before exploding for five runs in the top of the fourth to take a 11-2 lead.
After surrendering a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, Satur kept the Kagman bats at bay until the umpires evoked the 10-run mercy rule in the sixth.
