The Marianas Public Lands Authority warned street vendors selling their merchandise on roadsides covered by public lands that its compliance officers would be conducting inspections if the traders have secured the requisite permit from the agency.

MPLA public information officer Ed Arriola, Jr. said that the compliance officers have been conducting inspections, which revealed that some of the unpermitted activities had sometimes resulted in dangerous situations to motorists and pedestrians.

Arriola explained that motorists had to park their vehicles near the vendor, sometimes resulting in dangerous traffic conditions.

“MPLA understands that the economy is bad. People need to make ends meet,” Arriola said.

The public information officer pointed out, though, that the MPLA remains to be the guardian of public lands.
