Continental’s jumbo jets cease Guam-Saipan flights
Continental Micronesia’s jumbo aircraft reportedly stopped its daily flights between Guam and Saipan beginning yesterday.
However, Continental partner Cape Air continues to service Saipan, Rota and Guam.
Based on the Commonwealth Ports Authority’s gate schedule for the Saipan International Airport, Continental Micronesia’s passenger jets provide three flights daily to Manila and three flights back to Saipan.
The new schedule, which took effect yesterday, reflected no Continental jet arriving on Saipan from Guam.
The Saipan Tribune attempted to confirm the reported stoppage of the Guam-Saipan jet service with Continental Micronesia’s offices on Guam, but staff vice president for sales and marketing Walter Dias has yet to respond to the inquiry.
Earlier, though, Continental Micronesia vowed to continuously work with travel partners and offer charter flights to Saipan, which will pick up the number of travelers visiting the CNMI.
Dias recently disclosed that Continental would also provide charter services from Nagoya to Saipan on Feb. 8.
The airline has provided three charters flights to Saipan from three Japanese cities this month. Dias said the flights, which utilized Boeing 737-800 jets that have seat capacities of 155 each, arrived on Saipan on Jan. 2, 3 and 4 from Nagoya, Niigata, and Sapporo, respectively.
