Gov. Benigno R. Fitial named at least seven more Cabinet officials and agency heads yesterday, the Saipan Tribune learned yesterday.

The new appointments are made at the sole discretion of the administration and do not require Senate confirmation.

Former House leadership spokesperson Charles Reyes Jr. has been appointed to the position of press secretary.

As reported earlier, Esther S. Fleming will serve as Fitial’s special assistant for administration. California-based attorney Joel Bergsma is the governor’s legal counsel.

Antonio Muna has been named special assistant for management and budget, while John S. Del Rosario is the governor’s senior policy adviser.

Office of Personnel Management employee Matilda Rosario has been appointed as acting personnel director, while Ann Doris Babauta will retain her position as director of the Passport Office.

More appointments are expected to be announced this week.

Fitial, in his inaugural address Monday, announced the appointment of private attorney Matthew Gregory as the new attorney general.

Gregory will be required to sever his ties with former and present clients upon his assumption to the Attorney General’s Office, Fitial said yesterday.

Gregory has worked with Tan Holdings Corp. and is currently representing the Marianas Public Lands Authority, LSG Sky Chefs, and Saipan World Resort, among other clients.

Other Cabinet appointees are: Ignacio Dela Cruz to the Department of Lands and Natural Resources; Clarence Tenorio Jr., Department of Commerce; Eloy Inos, Department of Finance; J. Kevin Villagomez, Department of Public Health; Gil San Nicolas, Department of Labor; John Wabol, Department of Public Safety; Ray Mafnas, Department of Corrections; Jose S. Demapan, Department of Public Works; and Daisy Villagomez-Bier, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs.

Their nominations are subject to Senate confirmation.
