Dress code for top officials

In keeping with its business-focused agenda, the newly installed Fitial administration will implement a dress code for Cabinet members and agency heads.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial said yesterday that department and agency leaders will be required to wear business attire from Monday through Thursday. For men, this means a coat—or at least a long-sleeved shirt—and a tie during the first four days of the week.
For islandwear Friday, a tropical-themed shirt and pants will be appropriate.
Women may choose whether to wear skirts or pants, as long as they dress in a business-like manner.
“Department heads will be dealing with a lot of investors, reputable people. We want to show that we are professional, that we respect our office and the people we’re dealing with,” press secretary Charles Reyes Jr. said yesterday.
The memorandum is expected to be issued today. It will become effective immediately.
Fitial, who was sworn in Monday as the 6th elected governor of the Northern Marianas, vowed to become the governor who will revive the Commonwealth’s slumping economy and restore financial integrity in the government.
“This administration’s top priority is the economy—the foundation for education, public safety, health and welfare, infrastructure development, and social programs,” Fitial told the large crowd that turned up for the inauguration rites.
“[Lt. Gov.] Tim [Villagomez] and I will be ‘Economy Governors’ because we were elected on that basis and under this economic crisis. And because we cannot serve our constituents well if our economy continues to languish as it has for the past four years,” he added.
