NMC gala dinner aims for scholarship funds
The Northern Marianas College Board of Regents’ 1st Annual Gala Dinner this coming Saturday will raise funds for a new NMC Regents Scholarship Program that will be awarded to top academic graduating public school students in the CNMI.
The 1st Annual Gala Dinner will be held on Jan. 21, from 6pm to 10pm at the Saipan World Resort’s Royal Taga Hall. The event will feature Guam’s Patrick Palomo Jazz Band.
Tickets, which are sold at $100 per person, includes an “exquisite six-course dinner and an open bar.”
NMC Board of Regents chair Kimberly King-Hinds said the regents are planning to award four full institutional scholarships to two students from Saipan and one each from Tinian and Rota. The scholarships will be for students who will attend NMC.
In a news briefing held yesterday morning at the NMC BOR conference room, the college and the NMC Foundation officers called on the public to support Saturday’s fundraising event.
NMC president Tony V. Deleon Guerrero said the institution is soliciting the help of the CNMI public so that they could meet their target number to accommodate the scholarship.
NMC Foundation president Jerry Tan said he is very excited about the upcoming silver anniversary gala dinner. He encouraged all business leaders in the CNMI to participate and to invite their employees and clients along. “It will be a fun, fun evening,” he said.
Raaj S. Kurapati, NMC director for Finance and Procurement, said the college is hoping to draw at least 300 guests to make the Regents Scholarship Program a reality. He said the scholarships would be for one-year free study at NMC.
Guerrero said the 25th Silver Anniversary marks an important milestone in the history of the CNMI’s lone public postsecondary institution. “Through 25 years of service, NMC has witnessed progress at all levels and college personnel continue to strive in transforming NMC into a quality higher education institution in the Pacific Asia Region.
The event emcees will be Ed Propst and Patricia Coleman.
