A month after crowning Joe Demapan the Saipan Golf Association Ace of Aces for 2005, a new season of driving, pitching, and putting on the links is days away from getting underway for some of the CNMI’s top duffers.

According to SGA secretary Larry Guerrero, the strikers and slicers return to the Laolao Bay Golf Resort this Sunday, Jan. 22, to officially ring in the New Year with the January Ace of the Month tournament.

Golfers get to enjoy their morning a bit before heading down to the links as registration and pairing assignments begin at 8am, with tee times on the challenging Laolao West course starting at 8:47am.

After the conclusion of last year’s season, Guerrero stoked the fires of competition by challenging Demapan and all comers to look out because the veteran duffer will be gunning for them in the new year.

“I’m gonna win it in January! I guarantee it,” he said.

Guerrero said that there are a couple of golfers who have yet to renew their membership for 2006, and reminded the unnamed golfers that they must do so prior to the start of this weekend’s tournament.

First-time SGA members are required to pay the $50 registration fee while returning members need only satisfy the $40 fee. Guerrero said that the SGA is currently accepting new members and that anyone interested is invited to come down to Laolao Bay this weekend.
