Girl declared brain dead, police place case under investigation
A three-year-old girl has been described as clinically brain dead at the Commonwealth Health Center for head injuries and police have placed the case under investigation.
Detective George F. David told the Saipan Tribune that, as of yesterday, the case was classified as “an injured person” while they are still waiting for the medical examination results.
David admitted that, based on their preliminary investigation, the statements of the father was inconsistent with the injuries of the child. He said the child had abrasions on the head.
David refused to elaborate on the alleged inconsistent statements of the father as well as the nature of the child’s injuries but he stressed that, as of yesterday, no one had been arrested.
The girl is at CHC’s intensive care unit. She was brought to the hospital on Tuesday.
Brain death is defined as the irreversible loss of all functions of the brain.
David said that, according to the father, the girl was playing with her brother in the bedroom of their house in Garapan after lunch time.
David said the father stated that he was watching TV when the girl approached him and complained she could hardly breath.
The reportedly father told police that he massaged his daughter’s chest, when she suddenly lost consciousness.
The father called for help from relatives and neighbors. An ambulance transported the girl to CHC. At that time, the mother was working, police said.
