Charges vs MPLA chair’s daughter dropped
The Superior Court yesterday dismissed the charges against the alleged girlfriend of a man who was arrested by police during a burglary at Mid Pac Micronesia in Gualo Rai.
Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja dismissed with finality the charges against Sharee D. Maratita after Chief Prosecutor Jeffrey Moots moved to drop the complaint.
Naraja granted Moots’ oral motion, but still ordered the prosecutor to file a written motion to dismiss.
A police detective served an arrest warrant to the 29-year-old Maratita on Jan. 4 for alleged conspiracy. But the Attorney General’s Office never filed an information against her.
The arraignment was set for yesterday, but Moots moved for the dismissal of the matter.
Attorney Edward Arriola is counsel for Maratita, who is the daughter of Marianas Public Lands Authority board chairwoman Ana Demapan-Castro.
Maratita’s alleged boyfriend, John Richard P. Guerrero, is the son of Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board chair Frank Guerrero, the Saipan Tribune learned.
During the Jan. 5 hearing, Superior Court Associate Judge David Wiseman released Maratita on $50,000 unsecured bond.
Police said Maratita was inside Guerrero’s get-away car that was parked near the crime scene.
The car, a 2005 Nissan Maxima with license plate ADJ-542, was impounded. Investigators found inside the car a large bolt cutter, a crowbar, knife, paraphernalia used in smoking “ice” and other tools.
Eleven members of the TRET team surrounded the Mid Pac Micronesia Building on Dec. 30, 2005 between 3am to 4am upon receiving information that a burglar was still inside the building.
The team then arrested the suspect, identified as Guerrero, who initially struggled with the officer, police said.
Initial investigation showed that the suspect broke into Mid Pac building, causing a security alarm to sound off.
Guerrero was arrested on charges of burglary and theft, criminal mischief, and illegal possession of a controlled substance.
The court imposed a $100,000 cash bail for Guerrero’s temporary release.
The police report filed in the case against Guerrero did not mention Maratita.
Demapan-Castro told the Saipan Tribune yesterday that, shortly after that bail hearing, she immediately subjected her daughter to a drug test and that the results turned out to be negative.
