KHS students raise money in car wash
Close to 20 Kagman High School seniors cleaned cars during the Shell Marianas’ Suds for Funds car wash event held last Saturday as part of efforts to raise money for their graduation ball on June 3, 2006.
Shell Marianas holds the car wash event every third Saturday of the month as part of a commitment to support members of the community in their various civic projects. The event is sponsored by Coca-Cola Beverage Co. (Micronesia), which provides drinks for the participants.
“It’s good,” said Anna Yamada, one of the students’ advisers. “Without the support from Shell, Coca-Cola and Glimpses Advertising-Saipan, we wouldn’t make as much money and we wouldn’t have as much fun.”
Glimpses Advertising coordinates the event, which is also published in the monthly Beach Road magazine, one of the company’s publication materials.
Last Saturday’s Suds for Funds was held at Shell Gualo Rai.
Amanda Cabrera, president of the Kagman High School Senior Class of 2006 graduation committee, said they were able to raise around $80.
“I am thankful that they are sponsoring events like this and that they allowed us to participate,” said Cabrera.
The group has raised close to $1,000 from different fundraisers, including hot lunches. The students also participated in last month’s Suds for Funds held at Shell Susupe, where they were able to raise $70. Cabrera said tbey plan to hold more fundraisers to make their graduation a memorable event.
Other organizations that had participated in the Shell Suds for Funds car wash events are several MY WAVE Tourism Clubs, the Philippine Consulate’s Bayani Association, the CNMI Volunteer Firefighters, Glushko’s Academy of Performing Arts, Grace Christian Academy Student Council, and the House of Manhoben.
Interested groups who want to participate in the car wash may get in touch with any of the Shell stations for information.
Shell want to encourage car wash groups to pre-sell tickets for better results. The next Suds for Funds is scheduled for Feb. 18, 2006 at Shell Highway Express in Gualo Rai. (PR)
