Villagomez named to MVA board
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial yesterday appointed another member to the Marianas Visitors Authority’s board, following the recent appointment of businessmen Jerry Tan and Anthony Pellegrino to their respective board seats.
Fitial named Emma S. Villagomez to represent women and the Carolinian community to the MVA board.
The governor will soon appoint another board member to the MVA, who will represent Tinian, according to press secretary Charles Reyes Jr.
Reyes did not disclose the nominee’s identity, pending the administration’s consultation with Tinian Mayor Jose San Nicolas about the planned appointment.
The MVA board faces a big challenge ahead as Fitial earlier vowed to bring in one million tourists yearly to the CNMI. The challenge comes as the number of tourists coming into the islands continues to be impacted by the pullout of Japan Airlines’ regular flights to Saipan.
In other appointments, Fitial also named Merissa Mae Seman as director of the CNMI Scholarship Office. Reyes added that there would be more appointments soon for board seats at the Scholarship Office and the Northern Marianas College.
The governor also appointed Jovita Taimanao as Marianas/Guam liaison officer.
