A six-year-old student was injured after he was hit by a car when he suddenly crossed the road on his way home in San Vicente yesterday afternoon.

An ambulance transported the boy to the Commonwealth Health Center. Emergency medical technicians put braces on the boy’s neck and right leg.

The boy was crying when medics slowly moved him to the ambulance.

Witnesses said the boy had just come from San Vicente Elementary School and was on his way home when the accident happened at 2:55pm near the Mobil Gasoline Station in San Vicente.

A Toyota Corolla car driven by a female teenager was traveling toward San Vicente school when the boy, who was on the opposite shoulder side of the road, suddenly ran to cross the highway.

The car’s left side hit the boy, who was tossed into the air and landed on the pavement a few meters away.

The driver immediately stopped. The car’s left portion near the front was dented because of the impact.

Fortunately, Detective Christopher Leon Guerrero happened to be passing the area. Leon Guerrero immediately assisted the boy while another police officer called the ambulance and directed the traffic flow.

A witness said she knew the car would hit the boy because he was running to cross the road.

“He was thrown into the air…just like a car hitting a dog,” she said.

The witness said the boy’s bag somehow saved him from serious injuries because he landed on it.

Another witness said the boy is usually accompanied by his sister. It was not clear whether the boy had a companion at that time.

Some San Vicente school officials immediately responded to the scene.
