Local TOC winner heading to Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth
The 2005 winner of the Tournament of Champions—Sasaki Oliver—is heading to Perth, Australia to play in The Johnnie Walker Classic in February.
The Johnnie Walker Classic is Asia-Pacific’s best known and most prestigious golf tournament.
This will be the 15th year of the tournament presented by Johnnie Walker. The tournament will be played at the Vines Resort and Country Club in Perth, Australia from Feb. 9 to 12.
“I am deeply thrilled and totally excited to be representing the CNMI in the tournament. It’s an honor for me to have this privilege after a tough competition in the TOC here in Saipan. I thought winning the 2005 TOC was a great accomplishment but getting a chance to play in the Johnnie Walker Classic will be even sweeter,” says Oliver.
Oliver will be joined by other invited guests, TOC board members Marian-Aldan Pierce and Ray Camacho. Pierce and Camacho are both very excited about attending the tournament.
This year’s TOC will mark the 11th year of the tournament on Saipan. The winner of this year’s TOC will be playing in the 2007 Johnnie Walker Classic.
Since its inception, TOC has given over $400,000 to the government’s beautification fund. This money has been used for the traffic medians from Garapan to the Nikko Hotel, the revitalization of the Garapan special district, the enhanced beautification of the Paseo de Marianas, lighting of the Beach Pathway, and other beautification projects.
