Labor OKs transfer of 3 alien workers
The Department of Labor has allowed three nonresident workers to have their employment applications processed after affirming the denial of their applications for another employer.
In a recent administrative order, Labor hearing Herbert D. Soll allowed Jenie Agbanlog, Elena Elayda, and Salvador Royo to work for Jonny’s Corp. as soon as the company files with the Labor Division employment applications on their behalf.
Soll allowed the three workers to begin working for the company during the processing of the applications.
Soll, however, denied the workers’ appeal to reverse the Labor Division’s order denying their employment applications filed by prospective employer Ocean Field (Saipan), Inc.
Ocean Field and the three workers, plus nonresident Gina Paule, appealed the denial last month. Paule has reportedly left the CNMI.
The former manager of Ocean Field, Kaji Takeda, appeared during the hearing on the appeal. Takeda moved to another company, Jonny’s Corp., where he is now manager. Takeda apparently expressed his intention to hire the three remaining workers.
“There was no objection to the denials, but the innocent employees’ ability to work at jobs open and available to them was of concern to all participants,” Soll noted. (John Ravelo)
