Cruz is first Prince of the Lanes

In hopes of promoting bowling to the youth, the Saipan Bowling Association has kicked off another tournament that offers cash prizes to the top three finishers.

Ian Cruz wounded up taking top honors in the January Prince of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament last Sunday, beating nine other bowlers and earning $40.

Cruz was right on the money in his first game and bruised 144 pins. He continued to heat up as he knocked down 152 pins before cooling off for a pedestrian 108 pins in his third game. He then closed strong with 182 pins for a total of 586 pins and an average of 146.5 pins per game.

Placing second was Ken Yoshimoto, who pocketed $20. The youth kegler hit 138 pins in his first game and sizzled for 160 pins in his second game. He continued to have a strong showing with 151 pins in his third game before closing with 117 pins. In all, he hit 556 pins for an average 141.5 pins per game.

Keno San Pablo took third place and won $15 with a total of 557 pins and an average of 139.25 pins per game. He had 109 and 140 pins in his first two games, then closed strong with 161 and 147 pins.

Other bowlers include Joshua Alegado (555), Christielyn Camacho (547), Jared Guiterrez (521), Jeremy Williams (515), Mayanne Mckenzie (510), Marion Mckenzie (498), and James Jucutan (458).

SBA official Ross Zapanta said the tournament has yet to secure commitment for sponsorship. He however added that it serves as a positive venue for the youth bowlers to showcase their skills.

Zapanta and his wife, Gigi, are currently training the youth bowlers every Saturday.
The monthly tournament will be held on the Sunday of the King and Queen of the Lanes tournament, with participants paying a fee of $10.
