Taga Air wants int’l flights and bigger hangar
TINIAN—Taga Air is proposing to expand its hangar at the West Tinian International Airport in anticipation of a bigger operation, including flying internationally.
Taga Air Charter Services president Alfred Yue wrote the Commonwealth Ports Authority proposing that the company be allowed to lease a bigger land for shelter and maintenance of its aircraft.
Right now, Taga Air has an existing lease on over 8,211 square ft at the airport. The lease, which began in March 2005, will last for five years and is renewable for two terms.
The company is seeking additional land totaling 20,000 sq ft and a lease term of 40 years.
Yue said that Taga Air had only one aircraft when it acquired the initial land. He said there are now nine aircraft occupying the hangar.
These include two Cessna 172, which carry three passengers; one Cessna 402, which carries nine passengers; one Cessna 150, which carries two passengers, including the pilot; four Cherokee 300, which has a capacity of six passengers each; and one Baron 55, which has a capacity of six passengers.
Yue said Taga Air plans to add four more planes: two Cessna 172 and two Piper Cherokee 6.
At present, the airline is upgrading its certification to basic 135, which allows it to have five pilots.
“Then, in no time, Taga Air will work on its 121 license, which would allow it to operate bigger aircraft, 757, and Airbus,” said Yue.
“Our vision is to make Taga an international airline so we will no longer need to rely solely on foreign air carriers,” he said.
So far, Yue said that Taga Air’s overall investments exceed $1.5 million.
