Three-way tie on top of Tapochao Division
Three teams find themselves sharing the top spot in the Tapochao Division as action in the Budweiser SBA Open 8-Ball League entered its second week Tuesday night.
Defending champion Da Place Sure Shots and last year’s runner-up Round Two Hustlers came away from their marquee match-up in a 3-3 tie at Da Place Sports Bar, which left both teams also deadlocked in the win-loss standings of the premiere division of the poolfest, 7-5.
Blowing great guns for the home team were Luis Fajardo, R.J. Mascarinas, and the doubles pair of Mascarinas and Senen Pangilinan, while putting Hustlers on the board were Jerry Soriano, Ike Celis, and the team of Soriano and Rowell Mariano.
The third team in the 7-5 mix is USSP Dream, which bounced back from its 2-4 setback against Da Place a week ago, to take five of six games against sister team USSP Fotten Palau at both teams’ home digs at the USS Peleliu Club.
Ric Elefante, Rodel Dela Cruz, Edward Arnia, Richard Celistino, and the partnership of Celestino and Jaypee Jose all notched wins for USSP Dream, while Fotten Palau’s John Mongami prevented a sweep by outplaying Marvin Cabo in their singles match. Fotten Palau is alone in the cellar with a 3-9 mark.
In the Banzai Division, VFW Fotten Gaga II and Wild Wild West are currently holding fort after fast 9-3 starts.
Fotten Gaga II skunked Jewel Night Shooters, 6-0, at Jewel’s Sports Bar, while Wild Wild West came away with a 4-2 victory against Vargas Hot Shots at Wild Bill’s.
With the losses, Vargas Hot Shots and Jewel Night Shooters saw their records drop to 5-7 and 4-8, respectively.
Godfather’s What Doin is just a few games below the leaders at an even 6-6 after it defeated VFW Pool Warriors, 4-2, at VFW Post 3457. Pool Warriors is currently in the cellar with a 3-9 record.
