Black Construction gets Navy wharves contract

SANTA RITA, Guam—The Navy awarded a firm-fixed-price contract to Black Construction Corp. on March 8 for $49.86 million.

The project, which is scheduled to be completed by June 2008, entails improvements to Alpha and Bravo Wharves on Naval Base Guam. The work includes sheet-pile bulkhead improvements to both wharves, a concrete wharf extension to Bravo Wharf, wharf fendering, mooring fittings, utility connections, security and area lighting distribution system, upgrade to potable water distribution system, and dredging.

“Naval Facilities Engineering Command Marianas has been working hard with the fleet and the region for some time on setting requirements to enable award of this critical wharf extension project,” said Capt. Kenneth Branch, commanding officer of NAVFACMAR. “The project will improve the existing wharf infrastructure and lengthen the wharf to provide berthing for important strategic assets that will stage Marianas region to be an important sea base against the War on Terror. Black Construction Corp. is a highly capable contractor who will deliver this project on time and on target.”
