Despite a strong showing in the 146 event, 10-team strong Saipan International Meet, the hometown tankers of the Saipan Swim Club finished in second place behind the well balanced Tarakito Swim Team from Japan.

Head coach Michael Stewart and a crowd of local parents and sports fans who witnessed the dominating performance put forth from the SSC women, as the ladies finished the two-day competition 161 points ahead of the TKO team for a total of 546 tallies, but the men’s 303.50 points were less than half that of the International Buccaneers (681.50) and the TKO (661).

The main reason that the young men lost out on the points was because of the relatively low number of tankers, but that wasn’t a problem for the little ladies. Eight-year-old Opal Northen accounted for a slew of points on her own with a second place finish in the 100m Freestyle (1:44.98), a pair of third place finishes in the 50m Freestyle (48.05) and 50m Butterfly (1:06.00), and fourth place finishes in the 50m back stroke (1:01.84), 100m back stroke (2:15.72), and 50m breast stroke (1:25.76).

She wasn’t the only young lady posting respectable times as eight-year-old Victoria Chentsova placed second in the 50m back stroke (59.88), third in the 100m back stroke (2:12.11), and the 50m breast stroke (1:15.76), and sixth in the 50m freestyle (54.81)

In addition, eight-year-old Alina Yoon’s times in the 100m breast stroke (2:48.94), 100m back stroke (2:18.31), 100m freestyle (2:08.76), and 50m freestyle (55.69) combined with seven-year-old sensation Marina KaKu’s 50 butterfly (1:10.07), 100m freestyle (2:06.62), 100m back stroke (2:19.90), 50m back stroke (1:17.88), and 50m freestyle (56.92) to add a slew to the girls’ total

On the boys’ side, youngster Andrew Kimbal cruised through the two-day affair as the bold eight-year-old was the first to touch the tiles in the 100m backstroke (1:51.90) and 100m breaststroke (2:15.88), and followed with fourth place finishes in the 50m freestyle (45.22), 100m freestyle (1:43.63), and 50m backstroke (55.23).

Tadpole Hunter Jewel pitched in during the 100m backstroke when he tapped out at 2:49.64.
