Northern Marianas Athletics has confirmed that it will hold its first Micronesian Games qualifier this Saturday, March 25, at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field facility.

This according to NMA coaches director Elias Rangamar, who disclosed yesterday that the qualifier will begin at 4pm, with registration getting underway at 3pm.

Rangamar said events for the day would depend on who shows up for the meet, meaning if there is a good turnout for the 100m sprint, the event will be held.

Among the events to be featured during the Games are the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m, 10,000m, shot put, discus, javelin, hammer throw, long jump, triple jump, high jump, heptathlon for women, octathlon for men, relays, half marathon, and cross country.

Meanwhile, the Micronesian Games Organizing Committee has released details on a fun run fundraiser this Saturday morning.

According to publicity committee chair Bob Coldeen, registration for the Micro Games Supporters Club 5K Fun Run/Walk/Crawl begins at 7am and will last for an hour before the start of the event, which is scheduled for 8am.

The run begins at the American Memorial Park pavilion. Participants will run through the AMP and head towards Smiling Cove towards the end of the park. From there, runners will turn around and head back to the finish line, which will also be at the pavilion area.

“Huge,” Coldeen said in referring the importance of the event. “This is for all those athletes and individuals who said they wanted the Micro Games on Saipan. Time to put your money where your mouth is.”

All participants are required to pay a $10 entry fee, with all proceeds going to the hosting of the Micro Games.

Already confirming its assistance is the NMA, which will handle recording of times.
