Sixers I catches Garapan Rollers I at the top
Sixers I caught Garapan Rollers I on top of the standings, rampaging to its sixth win against no loss after a 70-34 stroll-in-the-park victory against winless Matansa Sparks Thursday night in the continuation of the 2006 Inter-Village Youth Basketball League.
Playing away from home at the San Roque Basketball Court didn’t bother coach Ray Duenas’ crew one bit, as Matt and Roxanne Duenas led the charge with four points apiece to give the San Antonio team a 12-5 spread after the first quarter.
Vince Leon Guerrero and Ian Benavente joined the party in the second canto, firing eight points each, as Sixers I continued to dominate the game and were on top by 19 points, 34-15, at the end of the first half.
The Sparks tried to match Sixers I’s offensive efficiency at the start of the second half, but could only conk out six points, four courtesy of Ryan Camacho, and fell further and were down by 33 points, 54-21, heading into the final eight minutes of the contest.
Novo Pepito then made his best Luizi Reyes impersonation in the payoff period, sniping away like the Manhoeben Saints top gun for 10 points in the fourth to cap Sixers I’s 36-point victory.
Pepito went on to share scoring honors with Leon Guerrero as the duo fired 14 points apiece for San Antonio. The two Duenases and Benavente also logged in 10 points each for Sixers I.
Camacho paced Sparks with 10 points. The loss was the fourth in as many outings for the Matansa team.
