…and high-end shopping mall
Talks have been going on for the possible construction of a shopping mall on Tinian, which may become the first of its caliber in the Commonwealth, according to a consultant of the Tinian Mayor’s Office.
Dr. Thomas Arkle, special consultant for resource development at the Tinian Mayor’s Office, said that an undisclosed company is considering the multi-million-dollar venture, which is envisioned to have name brand stores, theater houses, bowling lanes, drugstores, game rooms, and high-end restaurants, among many others.
He, added, though, that the project is still being conceptualized. No final plans have been completed to date.
“If built, the timing will coincide with hotel, golf course and military influx. It is envisioned as a high-end mall with some stores that even Saipan does not have yet,” Arkle said.
Relocation to Tinian of some U.S. Marine troops currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan has been tentatively set to begin by January 2007, according to Arkle.
Multi-million-dollar casino investments have also been lining up on the island.
Besides Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino, four other investors want to put up casino establishments on the island, including Bridge Investment Group, which is embarking on a $300 million casino hotel project; Marianas Resort Development Co. Inc., which plans to build a new $170-million casino and golf course project; and Baltimore-based Cordish Company, which will invest a minimum of $200 million for a casino and gold course project.
A fifth company, the name of which has yet to be publicly disclosed, has also expressed interest in investing in a casino venture on Tinian.
