Micro Games men’s slow pitch softball team set

After two weeks of intense tryouts, the coaching staff for the CNMI Men’s National Softball Team has made its selection of all stars that will represent the NMI in the 6th Micronesian Games this summer.
Saipan Softball Association president Ray Palacios provided a list of names that were selected, including Jerry Ayuyu, Leo Bobai, Roque Camacho, Julian Camacho, Roy Celis, Jonathan Delos Santos, John Diaz, Hector Efraim, Ken Kalen, J.J. Laniyo, Tony Luzama, Gloyd Martin, Bruce Norita, Ned Norita, Joe Palacios, Mario Sablan, Vinnie Sablan, and Olikon Tkel.
Serving as alternates are Eric Tudela, Peter Camacho, and Joe Tudela.
The squad will be managed by Dave Cepeda and coached by Bill Limes and Isidoru Camacho.
According to Palacios, the coaching staff had a tough task in selecting the 18-man roster as many talented players took part in the tryouts.
“It took coaches more than an hour of deliberation before finally coming out with the 18-man roster with three alternates,” Palacios said. “It was not an easy task for all players that came for the tryout are all committed and have the skill to represent the CNMI.”
Palacios also recognized the efforts of the coaching staff “for their commitment, their volunteering, [and] their time.”
“Hope that come Micro Games, we will eventually come out on top,” he said.
Palacios also expressed appreciation to all players who participated and were not selected, and asked for their support of the team this June and July.
He also recognized director Joe Lizama and the Division of Sports and Recreation for the use of the Tan Ge Softball Field at the Oleai Sports Complex.
Also, a meeting for all selected all stars and alternates will be held this Monday, April 3 at 6pm at the Tan Ge field.
The Micro Games will be held June 23 to July 2 on Saipan and will play host to between 1,200 to 1,500 athletes, coaches, and officials. Delegations invited to take part in the Games include the CNMI, Guam, Palau, Marshall Islands, Pohnpei, Chuuk, Kosrae, Yap, Kiribati, and Nauru.
