An Emergency Disaster Plan for the Public School System has been completed to assist its personnel and students deal with calamities.

It takes into consideration thar CNMI’s geographical location presents the possibility of bad weather conditions to occur within 72 hours or less.

The plan, which is already out in the various schools, can be activated following the governor’s execution of typhoon conditions advisories.

Schools are advised to seek help from the disaster health services in assisting people with disabilities during emergency situation.

PSS directed its personnel to provide verbal orientation for those with visual impairment and assign them in an area with permanent fixtures.

For tsunami alert evacuation, PSS identifies Tanapag, William S. Reyes, San Antonio, among other schools in low-lying areas, as priority schools. Buses will be assigned to the first-priority listing.

Children can be ferried to As Matuis, Capitol Hill, Navy Hill and other high-area locations.

If students will need to evacuate by foot, those enrolled at GTC Elementary school can seek shelter at San Roque Church. Children at Garapan Elementary School can pass through the MIHA Housing Section and proceed to the open grounds of CHC.

This disaster plan has emphasized that only the Commissioner of Education is authorized to make decisions for public schools.
