The Commonwealth Ports Authority has six new certified members of the Tinian Ports Police. On Friday, Superior Court Associate Judge John A. Manglona administered the oath of office to the police officers at the courthouse on Tinian.

On Tinian and Rota, police officers are also trained to serve as aircraft rescue fire fighters, which benefits both the officers and the Commonwealth Ports Authority.

The officer receives training in two highly skilled job categories, and CPA is allowed the flexibility it must have to make sure that trained police and fire fighters are on the job at all times.

Ports Police Chief Pius Helgen who attended Friday’s ceremony says he’s pleased to see the upgrade of the Tinian Ports Police Force and challenged the new officers to make the most of their newfound opportunity.

CPA Executive Director Carlos Salas said, “Safe and secure ports are always a priority and I’m happy to say even during these difficult economic times we are able to continue heading in the right direction.” Salas continued, “I applaud the management of the Tinian Ports for finding officers that are ready and willing to work in whatever capacity is needed to serve and protect the patrons of our ports.”

The newest members of the Tinian Ports Police are: Michael R. Cabrera, Joseph H. Pangelinan, Ronwaldo S. Pascua, Estanislao M. Hocog Jr., Trent R. Aldan and Fritz M. San Nicolas.

Each of the officers has completed basic training in law enforcement and federal aviation regulations before Friday’s Ceremony. In addition each new officer must enroll and successfully complete a full cycle of Police Academy training the next time it is offered at Northern Marianas College.
