The opening of the CNMI Service Center on Saipan further strengthened the ability of the Pacific Resources for Education and Learning to respond to the needs of the local educational system.

Its creation marks the first point of contact for the Public School System in seeking the partnership of PREL in efforts toward education reforms.

“I am very excited that the door is once again wide open for us to really take a look at discussions about travels, training, the needs for continuous development of our professional staff in terms of bringing kids with the best ideas,” said Commissioner of Education Rita H. Inos.

Founded in 1990, PREL takes special interest on continuous staff development in the Pacific.

According to Inos, the center is a model that is being used throughout the Pacific region. In the CNMI, PSS sponsors the site and its facilities, while PREL hires the coordinator.

With the institution of the center, the PSS expects a network that will access the CNMI to the various resources of PREL.

A familiar figure in PSS, Jean Olopai was also named as the coordinator of PREL’s CNMI Service Center. She began her career in PSS and later went to the Northern Marianas College. She retired in December as the research, information and training officer of PSS.
