Kagman and Sinapalu may not meet deadline
The usual hitches in construction had once again threatened the completion of Kagman and Sinapalu elementary schools based on earlier schedules.
According to Kathryn Loudines, Capital Improvement Coordinator for the Public School System, Pac United will be ready with Kagman by October of this year and not August as previously agreed upon.
“The classrooms will be ready for occupancy by the first week of October and the completion of the project by the end of that month,” she said.
Since its ground breaking last November, the contractor has complied with the extraction of unexploded ordinance and is currently completing the excavation works for the classroom buildings and library.
“We met with Pac United to express that PSS intends to occupy these classrooms on September 1, 1999,” she said in the report.
In addition, the construction of Kagman school is also facing the complaint filed by Fletcher Pacific Construction Co. which protested the decision made by the Department of Public Works to award the contract to Pac United.
Meanwhile, the PSS will also need to secure funding by next month to finally complete the Sinapalu Elementary School on Rota.
Based on estimates made by Efren F. Camacho engineering firm, some $500,000 is needed to complete the school. However, it could go higher, according to Loudines.
“If PSS can get funding secured by March 1, 1999 to prepare a final bid package for completion of the school, we estimate it can open in August 1999,” she said.
The PSS has identified funding for Sinapalu from its $32 million package but officials are still finalizing the $16 million loan with the California Financing Corporation.
