The reorganization plan endorsed by Northern Marianas College President Agnes McPhetres will eliminate top five ungraded positions and will allow the hiring of four faculty members.

Two proposal which the president presented to the Board of Regents yesterday deletes two vice-president offices and three deans from its current bureaucracy.

“The board has mandated me to revisit the reorganization,” she said, and gathered members from the committee who worked on the first restructure plan to work on the new chart.

She said this recent plan will also prepare the college for the 2.8 percent cut from its 2000 year budget.

According to McPhetres, the savings that will be derived from this restructure plan will allow NMC to hire four faculty members to teach courses on health, nursing, accounting and computer.

Under the new structure, only one person will hold the vice president post. Currently, NMC has three vice presidents and one provost.

It will also name just four deans to separately head the programs on Agriculture and Life, Instruction, Student Support Services and School of Education. At present, there are seven deans serving at the college.

As she discussed this recommendation with the Board, certain NMC officials raised issues against the proposal.

Former professional programs director Tony Guerrero questioned its efficacy and its possible impact on the various courses.

Public Information Officer Rey Mafnas also proposed for the Board to ensure that people are paid commensurate of their responsibilities. Since there will be certain demotions and promotions as far as the scope of work is concerned, salary reduction and pay increase should be reflected accordingly.

Board vice-chairman Ramon Villagomez offered the motion to further discuss this proposal with the entire NMC community.

Although, two meetings were already convened by the President to discuss this new structure, views which were raised yesterday prompted the board to call for another forum and delay its implementation.
